When was the last time you traded something great, for something that was just okay? The funny t
hing about this, is that in the moment, it doesn’t seem like it’s just okay. Usually when you are willing to trade something you have for something you want, it’s because (at least in that moment) it seems better.
How often do you find yourself doing this with your relationship with Jesus? Probably quite a bit, even if you don’t realize it. That’s because a lot of the time, you don’t see how great what you have, really is. If you truly grasped what you have in Jesus, you’d never trade another thing for it, for the rest of your life.
In Romans 1:21-25, it talks about how even though the people knew God, they chose not to worship him. They instead worshiped the things He made, but not the one who made all things. In verse 25 is says, “They traded the truth about God for a lie.” Would you willingly trade the truth about God for a lie? Of course not! But unfortunately, we often do it every day.
John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” If the bible says that you can live in peace and you currently going to drugs or alcohol to get it, you’ve traded that truth for a lie. A counterfeit of God’s truth, that the enemy has told you is better.
Jeremiah 31:3 says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” If we know that God is love and he can love us in a way no one else can, but we are constantly dating anyone who will give us any sort of attention just so we feel loved, then you have traded that truth for a lie.
The list goes on and on. Looking for real, genuine happiness, acceptance, and purpose in anyone or anything other than Jesus will never leave you satisfied. The enemy knows where you struggle. He knows where you are weak, and he is always baiting you with the things that appear to better than what God has for you.
It’s so important that you live your life from an eternal perspective. All the enemy has is lies. That’s it. Don’t trade your future away for what feels good in the moment. This moment will pass. Don’t get so caught up in what feels right, that you forget to go to the one who created what is truly right.
Jeremiah 29:11 says that God knows the plans he has for us and that they are of good and not for disaster, to give us a hope and a future. He has a perfect plan for your life. But the key to walking out that perfect plan is to choose the truth, whenever an opportunity presents itself. The Word of God is the truth in a world of lies. It has every answer you will ever need. It’s where God speaks to you, where he tells you about your future, and where he comforts and loves you.
The Word in an anchor when you feel like everything is falling apart. It will help you feel hope in a hopeless situation. It will comfort you when you are lonely. And it will empower you to live a life of truth even if everyone around you had traded their truth away.
You have people all around you that are looking for the truth. They might not realize that they are, but they are searching. And you have the chance to be that truth in a world of lies. Commit to no longer trading God’s truth for the enemies lies and watch and see all the things that God does in and through you!
